I grew up in the northwest of England. After leaving school, I began working as a veterinary nurse. I then travelled, working in all kinds of jobs from ski chalet host to horse riding instructor. Eventually, after settling in the UK, I trained as a nutritionist and acquired my first dogs; a labrador and a collie.
I knew very little about training then but was fortunate enough to attend a positive rewards-based puppy class. This class gave me the ingredients I needed to have two well-behaved pet dogs.
When my daughter was born, I decided to be a full-time parent and added our current dog, Disco, the labrador. Her breeders were passionate about dog training and enrichment for dogs, and I developed an insight into the canine world that I hadn’t seen before.
After studying a little neuroscience and the biology of behaviour, I found a way to relate to dog training. I then began training with the Institue of Modern Dog Trainers and the British College of Canine Studies. After several years of books, videos, webinars, courses and assessments, in 2021, I qualified as an IMDT certified dog trainer.
Since becoming qualified, I have been training people and their dogs on a one-to-one basis and assisting in various dog training classes around Staffordshire.
